
Born in Ouro Preto, Brazil, musical studies included –Chicago’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (1991) –Stockhausen Summer Courses (1999-2001) –Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut (2006-09) earning a Master of Arts in experimental composition (2009) and a Doctorate of Musical Arts (2015) at the University of California Santa Cruz (2009-15) algorithmic compositional track. Among his teachers included –George Flynn (1993-95), John Eaton (1996-99) in Chicago –Anthony Braxton and Alvin Lucier at Wesleyan –David Cope, Hi Kyung Kim, Paul Nauert, Larry Polansky and Amy Beal at UCSC.
As a saxophonist performer, Andre worked with numerous ensembles –Alien Nation Dance Company (1993-98) –1234 (1999-2005) –Richard Nickel Transaction Ensemble (2002-05) –Anthony Braxton Sextet+2 and large ensemble (2006-09), Amy Beal’s contemporary music ensemble (2012-15), William Winant Percussion Ensemble (2015). Andre interpreted the music of composers: John Cage, Earle Brown, Christian Wolff, Anthony Braxton, Alvin Lucier, David Mahler, Larry Polansky, Carla Bley, Malcom Goldstein and Terry Riley. As an improvisor, Andre played alongside –Art of Ensemble of Chicago members Lester Bowie, Malachie Favors, Famodou Don Moye – Regie Workman, Gerry Hemmingway, Muhal Richard Abrams, Anthony Braxton, John Butcher, Malcom Goldstein and Larry Polansky. Venues included –Chicago’s Green Mill, Hot House (CIPEX), Empty Bottle, WNUR –Firehouse 12, New Haven Connecticut –Iridium, New York –CAPA Theater, Pittsburgh –Modern Art Museum in Santa Cruz, California.
Marquetti's compositions have been performed in California, Chicago, Connecticut, New York, Brazil and Korea. Ensembles and players performing some his major works ( Sketch for String Quartet (2005) – Symmetries (2011) – Rituals (2012) – Solos (Dice Game) and Conductor (Neural Network) (2015) ) included the Flux String Quartet, LA Percussion Quartet, Gnarwhallaby Quartet, Wu Man, Koto’s shakuhachi player Yoshio Kurahashi, Germany’s duo Ahlert and Schwab, pianist Amy Briggs Dissanayake, the Lincoln Trio and sfSoundGroup. In addition Marquetti was a member of composers groups –Chicago Composers Consortium (1996-2006) –New Music at the Green Mill (1994-2003) –Groundwave NewYork music collective (2000-01). Andre collaborated across the arts and sciences with –Alien Nation Dance Company (1993-98), with works presented at the Cleveland Performance Art Festival (1995) and Fluxus retrospective exhibit in Chicago (1993)–Jennifer Parker and Barney Haynes, UCSC open lab sonic arts group, audio installation rigged in Spain (2010), Gray Area Foundation for the Arts in San Francisco (2011), San Francisco Chronicle Building and Zero One Biennial, San Jose (2012).
